After Uncle Tan's we decided to go to Mount Kinabalu, one of the highest peaks in SE Asia. I was still pretty under the weather and the weather turned pretty foul so we decided not to ascend the peak. The park, however was amazing. We spent a day just parusing the trails practically tripping over all the orchids. The next day we went to see the Raffelsia – with a bloom that can measure up to 1 meter in diameter it is the largest flower on earth! It's also carnivorous...coooool! They bloom year around, but when it happens it's only for a week. The problem is they have been picked to near extinction so we were very lucky to find one. The villages make a living giving tours to the flowers when they are open. We gave an extremely short woman a pocketful of dosh and followed her for about 30 minutes into the forest, we saw it, and turned right around and followed her back out. The dogs didn't ask for a tip.
